Invermere BC is a quaint little resort town with amazing lake and mountain vistas, many wonderful restaraunts, and tons of things to do. If you are planning a trip, definitely check out our Invermere series of posts. We highlight our original travel photography, great spots to eat, amazing hikes in the area and of course 10 Fun Things in Invermere, BC!
1. Turtle spotting at Dorothy Lake.
Dorothy Lake is really more of a pond. It’s located in town right across from the public beach. It is home to painted turtles who can sometimes be spotted sunning themselves.
2. Kinsmen Beach.
The Lovely Kinsmen beach is a combination of sand and park. As dogs were not allowed on the beach, we set up on the grass and loved the tranquility of the park area. There is a concession that sells food and drink and an area for rentals.
3. Stop in at Arrowhead Brewing Company and try a beer flight.
Arrowhead Brewing Company is a craft brewery with 10 permanent beers as well as two or three seasonal beers on tap. They brew without the use of preservatives or additives. They also have a tasty apple cider for a gluten free alternative. Enjoy your flight with some fresh baked pretzels supplied by the local bakery. (For more tips on places to eat, check out our post here.)
4. Wildlife Spotting.
Invermere is teaming with wildlife! We spotted a grizzly,(from the vehicle thank goodness) bald eagles, herons, loons, mountain goats, rabbits, and deer. We watched a female deer with her fawn on multiple occasions from the balcony of our air bnb. The wetland area just before the lake abounds with wildlife. One morning a hawk flew right past our condo window with a fish clutched in his talons! Also, Pothole park is where the deer like to hang out.
5. Take a dip in a natural hot spring.
The area abounds with hot springs. If you want to pay and have a more commercial experience, you can visit either Radium or Fairmont hot springs as they are both close to Invermere. However, we recommend that you do the hour drive out to Lussier and experience the natural hot springs. It is a place of incredible beauty. You can bathe in a natural setting with the river rushing by. There’s really no comparison!
6. Stroll downtown and visit the boutique stores.
Some of our favorite shops included Three Bears gift shop, River Gems Gallery and Tea etc. We also enjoyed gelato on multiple occasions.
7. Take a hike!
The Columbia valley area is home to some really incredible hiking. Two that we especially enjoyed were Hoodoo Trail and Juniper Trail to Sinclair falls. I won’t go into detail in this post, for more about the hiking, check out our post here.
8. Visit Kicking Horse Cafe.
The cafe is connected with the Kicking Horse Coffee headquarters. They offer organic and fair trade coffee. Our personal favorite was the whole bean 454 Horse Power. (We may have demolished an entire bag in one week…)
9. Load up on BC wine.
The Okanagan valley is home to BC wine country. They produce some incredible wine there. We have been in past years and bought wine right from the vineyards. When we can’t do that, the next best thing is to buy it in BC as it is less expensive and more variety is offered then back home. We especially enjoy wine from Church and State, Dirty Laundry, Hester Creek, and Red Rooster vineyards.
10. Rent a boat.
Head down to Pete’s Marina and rent a boat by the hour or for the day. It’s a great way to see more of the lake and the beautiful lakefront properites that surround it.
We hope you found inspiration with our 10 Fun Things in Invermere, BC list. We had a ball and highly recommend the area to anyone looking for a relaxig small town vibe, with plenty of outdoorsy activities to enjoy!
