OK, so I know tons of people start the new year swearing to work out and eat better. And even though I feel I do these things all year long, there’s something about a fresh new year that compels me to do the same. My pantry is always stocked with healthy ingredients but when January hits, the urge overcomes me to put ALL THE THINGS into my breakfast cereal lol. This recipe is a result of that urge! My Super Healthy Multigrain Hot Cereal is gluten free, vegetarian and packed with protein rich, good for you ingredients. Don’t be put off by the long list of ingredients and don’t feel compelled to buy everything to make this recipe. It’s very flexible. Feel free to skip ingredients or substitute whatever you have on hand!
The Cereal Base
I have included five different grains in this super healthy mutigrain hot cereal. These grains are all gluten free. Rolled oats, flax, hemp, quinoa flakes and chia seeds all make an appearance and form the base of this hearty, stick to your ribs breakfast cereal. I recently stumbled across One Degree Organics Sprouted Rolled Oats at Costco and man were they a good find. They are a reasonable price for such a high quality organic product and the big bag lasts us longer which is a bonus!
The Toppers
I topped the version pictured here with chopped pecans, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. These add a hearty crunch and some good nutritional value too.
The Sweetener
I add a tablespoon of pure maple syrup to the top of my bowl of cereal before I eat it. I have also used honey, stevia and coconut palm sugar. Add whatever sweetener you enjoy or don’t add any if you prefer.
