We recently planned a family trip to British Columbia. We were stoked to do some hiking in Invermere, BC and Alex did a ton of research to find some really jawdroppingly beautiful trails. Our criteria was as follows:
Our dog Callie was hiking with us for the first time, so we didn’t want to pick something that would be too much for her. We wanted to find some trails relatively close to Invermere so as not to spend even more time in the vehicle after doing the drive to BC. Most importantly, we wanted really stunning hikes. We came up with two really great options, both of which checked all our boxes and are truly rave worthy. If you are going hiking in Invermere BC, we highly recommend you check out these two hikes.
1. Hoodoo Trail
We had a big group go with us on this one with varying degrees of hiking experience and everyone enjoyed it. It is a very family friendly hike so plan to go early, as it can get busy.
Know Before You Go:
- 3.2km loop
- 120m elevation gain
- trail head is found on google maps or alltrails
There is a gate at the beginning of the trail. The trail isn’t closed, that’s just to prevent people from driving in. There is a pedestrian walk through on the left side.
There’s a bit of a steady climb up, with very interesting flora and fauna. (We spotted a bunny taking a dust bath!) You come out at the top of the hoodoos and the view is incredible. The whole valley is spread beneath you.
After you finish the hike, we highly recommend that you drive to the base of the hoodoos and have a look. They are impressive to behold and you can see where you were perched up at the top!
Callie the Adventure Dog approves this hike! Callie says dogs are allowed on this trail. This hiking trail is easy on the paws and not a hard effort. There aren’t any watering holes so pack water. Keep an eye out for bunnies!
2. Juniper Trail to Sinclair Falls
Know before you go:
- 5.5km
- 281m elevation gain
- Start point is at the Radium Hot Springs overflow parking lot. If you start here, the steepest section at the falls is downhill.
Callie impressed us with her enthusiam for hiking so we chose a longer hike for our second one. This hike was a great choice as the day was rainy and overcast but we stayed dry under the canopy of the trees. We started early and the trail was quiet. We spotted mountain goats but they didn’t seem too concerned about us. This trail combined some spectacular views from the cliffs, followed by the highlight of the hike which was the valley at the bottom of Sinclair Falls. The river was fast moving and icy cold and the scenery was breathtaking.
Callie the Adventure Dog approves this hike! Callie says dogs are allowed on this trail and the hike is moderate effort. The path is easy on the paws and there is a mountain fresh watering hole at the bottom. Keep an eye out for squirrels!
There are plenty of choices for hiking in the Columbia Valley. Due to bear closures and some adverse weather conditions we weren’t able to explore a couple hikes that we would have liked to. We would love to go back and check out more. If you are planning some hiking in Invermere BC, these trails will not disappoint. For suggestions on things to do in Invermere, Check out this post.
