We Nirvana Girls love our coffee! In fact, the only thing better than a great cup of coffee, is a great cup of coffee with booze! I hesitate to admit it, but we may actually be a bit bougee when it comes to our coffee. We approach our morning coffee like a ritual, to be savored and enjoyed before heading out into the crazy world. On a summer weekend, there is no better treat than sipping a boozy salted caramel cold brew on the deck.

The Coffee

This recipe’s inspiration stemmed from a wonderful roast coffee we picked up while in San Jose del Cabo. We visited a small artisan coffee roaster called Los Tamarindos and picked up a mellow, flavorful medio-alto roast called Coatepec Veracruz. Typically we prefer a stronger roast coffee but loved the delicate flavor of this medium roast. We decided it would make an incredible cold brew. Because a cold brew sits for a period of time, the beautiful flavor has a chance to really infuse.

Bag of Coffee Beans

The Cold Brew

I make cold brew by first coarsely grinding my beans. I grind one tablespoon for every 2 cups of water. Usually, I make about 8 cups at a time as we like to keep a batch in the fridge in the summer. I add the beans to the cold water and let it sit on the counter all day. In the evening I put the whole thing in the fridge. The next morning, I strain the brew into a pitcher. I keep this cold brew in the fridge.

The Booze

We enjoy a lot of variations of coffee with booze. Recently our favorite neighbor dropped off a bottle of Smirnoff Salted Caramel Vodka. We were inspired to develop a coffee recipe using our new treasure.

Salted Caramel Vodka
