This quick and easy lemonade recipe was passed to me from my mom. She is such a great source of knowledge when it comes to nutrition and eating healthy! Anyway, mom was making organic lemonade sweetened with stevia long before it was a thing.
I had forgotten about her recipe until this summer. We have started to eat organic whenever feasible and I had purchased an organic lemonade. It was expensive and I found it lacking in flavor. This lemonade was sweetened with fruit juices which meant added sugar. Then I remembered my mom’s lemonade recipe and pulled it out. I realized this would be a much healthier and less expensive alternative.
I made a batch and there were raves. A whole pitcher disappeared within hours. I can confidently say it was a big hit!
The Lemons
Its very important to use fresh squeezed lemons and not the bottled lemon juice. I purchased the most amazing giant organic lemons! They were huge and full of juice. They made the perfect base for this recipe.
The Stevia
I purchase my stevia sweetener from Bulk Barn. They have a great granulated stevia sweetener that works as a cup for cup substitute for white sugar. I use it almost exclusively in my recipes now and it always works geat. Also it doesn’t have the after taste that the powdered stevia can have. Either one will work in this recipe though, and I give options for both.
The Variations:
I purchased a Pitcher with an infuser (like this one) and use it constantly. With this handy guy I can make variations by infusing it with fresh fruit. We make strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and peach lemonade to name a few!
Organic Lemonade Sweetened With Stevia
Ingredients
Juice of 3 organic lemons (approximately 3/4 cup)
1/2 cup granulated cup for cup stevia sweetener OR
1 tsp powdered stevia
7 cups warm water.
optional: fresh fruit to infuse
Instructions:
To a pitcher, add the fresh lemon juice and stevia. Add warm water ( this will help the stevia dissolve) and stir well. Refrigerate for several hours to ensure flavors are well blended. Serve over ice.
We also make a Black Cherry Bourbon Lemonade that is amazing. You can use this lemonade as your base. That recipe is here.
