The Nirvana Girls love Christmas! Have we said that already? We like to go all out, and we love to participate in all the season has to offer. The local production of A Christmas Carol? Check. The Nutcracker Ballet? Check. The beautiful Christmas concerts put on by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra? Check. But this year Christmas is looking a little different. However, different doesn’t have to be a bad thing. How are we embracing a low key, quiet, at home holiday? This Christmas Style Photo Book is our way of sharing how we are making our Christmas cozy! So read on for some quiet Christmas inspiration.
1. Candlelight
We put candles everywhere. Nothing makes a space feel instantly cozy like some candlelight. Mason jars with votives inside make for a quaint centerpiece. The middle arrangement was made completely with dollar store items!
2. Cozy Evenings by the Fire
We dim the lights, light some candles and relax by the fire. It’s been a gift we give ourselves to really relax and savor the quiet.
3. Winter Walks
Typically we tend to hibernate once winter announces itself. This year, we are making time to walk every day. Whether it’s a trip out to a local natural area or in our own neighborhood, we always see something magical.
4. Winter Themed Cocktails
We started getting really creative at cocktail time. We have been trying different unique winter themed drink recipes and creating some of our own new favorites too!
5. Supporting Local
We chose to buy our gifts from local merchants and markets as much as possible this year. A favorite gift idea is handmade beeswax candles. They smell so good!
6. Christmas Baking
Shortbread and sugar cookies and tarts, oh my!
7. Decorate Everything!
And I do mean EVERYTHING!
One thing we indulge in is a bit of live greenery. Whether it’s the Christmas tree, a wreath or just a few sprigs gathered from our walks, it makes the house smell so fresh.
8. Local Lights
We are lucky to have quite the Christmas Light display in our neighborhood. We like to appreciate all the hard work our neighbors put in to make things look so festive.
9. Comfort Food Cooking
We cook hearty comfort food meals like Damn Good Meatsauce and Vegetarian Lentil & Bean Chili. Nothing says cozy like a hearty crockpot dinner.
10. Crafts
The positive result of having less outings has been more time to rediscover our love for handcrafting gifts and decorations.
11. Advent Calendars
Yes they make adult advent calendars and this year we are enjoying a coffee calendar and a port calendar! It’s been so lovely to celebrate each day leading up to Christmas. We have something special to look forward to every day!
12. Christmas Letter Boards with Attitude
And finally, we can’t forget to mention our Festive & Funny Letter Boards! They have brought some lighthearted humor into our quiet Christmas. Because this year, you have to keep a sense humor. Check out our Funny & Festive Christmas Letter Boards post here.
We hope our Christmas Style Photo Book has inspired you in creating your own cozy, quiet Christmas. See you in 2021!
