So Christy had decided to do a no spend month (see the post here). Meaning she had planned all her expenses out and had a small list of things she could spend money on. Alex had a craving for wings. Alex’s first thought “We can go out for wings after Christy has finished her no spend month.” Alex’s second thought “That kind of defeats the purpose.” Alex’s third thought: “Lets have Wing Wednesday at home!” Thus Wing Wednesday at home was born. By doing it this way, we saved money, cooked together as a family, and had a really fun family evening together while practicing social distancing by avoiding restaurants! Here’s the funny part. While self isolating, we lost track of the days. I’m pretty sure Wing Wednesday was on Sunday!
Anyway, we bought a massive bag of frozen wings when we went grocery shopping, and made 3 batches of wings. First up is a family fav; Cajun wings. We got the recipe here. This recipe is super easy and absolutely delicious. I’ve made it several times for guests and family alike.
Next up was the honey garlic wings, a sweeter compliment to the other two hot wings. We wanted a milder, sweeter option to go with our spicy ones. Christy and I like the spice but Mike prefers a little milder.
Finally, we have our buffalo hot wings. Made with a base of Franks hot sauce and butter, I added some extra spices from the cupboard. This made some truly extra buffalo hot wings. Find that recipe here.
As a side, I made some loaded potato rounds which you can find here. We wanted something else to help tone down the heat, so serving the potatoes with sour cream really helped. These are the faster, easier version of potato skins. We love that they are so much more convenient and tasty as well!
Stay at home Wing Wednesday was so much fun that we plan to repeat it! We are going to make another round with some new flavours. I particularly want to pick up some bourbon so I can try honey and bourbon flavoured wings. As well, we are talking about a fondue night, and making some sushi. We have decided since we are stuck at home with all this time on our hands, we might as well have some fun. Since most restaurants are closed we are getting our cravings satisfied DIY style! What other ideas will we come up with by the time this is done?
