I have been weightlifting at the gym as part of my fitness routine for many years now. Early on, I researched and discovered that a protein powder added to my morning smoothie helps give my body extra fuel to build muscle. The downside is that because I lift five times a week, the old protein smoothie for breakfast gets pretty lame. I’ve become quite creative with my smoothie recipes and one of my all time favorites is my Caramel Cold Brew Protein Smoothie.

This smoothie came to be when I ran out of almond milk. With my go to smoothie base missing, I searched the fridge for alternatives. I often make my own cold brew and happily there was a jug in the fridge. (Check out how I make my own cold brew here.)

We had recently developed a recipe for an amazing boozy salted caramel cold brew. That was my inspiration for adding a little caramel extract and boom! My Caramel Cold Brew Protein Smoothie was born!

Before we get to the recipe, let me just quickly touch on protein powder. I’m not an expert, nor a nutrionist so always do your own research to find a product that’s right for you. I have been using Leanfit Naturals for years and I like that it is sweetened with stevia and Alex appreciates that it’s gluten free. I also like that it’s all non-GMO ingredients. It packs alot of protein in one scoop, coming in at 25g of protein. Also important to me is that I can get it in a large container at Costco so I’m not always running out of protein powder!
